To become a top-level football program we need to have top-level facilities. Currently, thanks to the work of the athletic department, Maryland Gridiron Network, and Stock the Fridge Campaign the team house is under renovation with the new coaching offices being completed this summer. Future plans call for a dining facility with a recruit meeting room, so players will no longer have to waste practice and study time walking across campus, coaches can ensure that players maintain a proper diet, and recruits can be accommodated on visits. It also calls for a more modern weight training facility, a new academic center, and a new team meeting auditorium with the latest video technology.
Additionally, the Terps practice fields are in need of resurfacing. The current turf that the team practices on has resulted in injuries to the players and is virtually too hazardous to use during wet conditions. Coach Friedgen is seeking approval from the Board of Regents to move forward with this improvement. The team is also in need of a new indoor practice facility, as the current facility was damaged by the tornado and only measures 35 yards in length.
Improvements to the stadium itself are needed to get Maryland Football to a nationally competitive level. As the number of season ticket-holders increase, expanding the stadium will be a priority, but for now, simple improvements to the stadium are needed. As Athletic Director Yow stated prior to last season, "Wouldn't it be nice if our roofs were another color besides Carolina blue?" To make these necessary improvements, the team needs the support of the school, state, and all of us fans.
